It’s important not to put in too much liquid dye at once because you can always add more, but you can’t remove dye once it’s in the pond. Typically, pond dyes will last an average of 4-8 weeks, depending on the amount of rainfall within that time period. 

Pre-measured water-soluble packets make it easy to get the amount right for your size pond. If using liquid pond dye, a good rule of thumb is to use the depth of your pond as a guide. Most one-gallon dyes will treat up to 4 acres or 1,300,000 gallons of water.
